Ragnar Kjartansson, in "The End," reflects on the end of masculinity, of painting, of Venice, for starters. At the Venice Biennale's Iceland Pavilion, a Renaissance palazzo on the Grand Canal, Kjartansson launched into a six-month performance in which he smoked a lot of cigarettes, painted a male model over and over, and exercised a fine Venice-infused melancholy. NewArtTV interviewed him during pauses in the painting on Biennale opening week.
