"Maurizio Cattelan: All," the artist's first museum retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum, is already notorious for its unusual installation in which all of the works in the show have been hung from the central oculus of the museum. Comprising most of his oeuvre (some 128 works in all), including the now-famous sculpture of Pope Paul VI felled by a meteor, the exhibition offers a definitive opportunity to decide: a mere jokester or (as curator Nancy Spector argues) "the tragic poet of our times"?
