In 2008 New Yorker David Humphrey won the American Academy's Rome Prize and set off on a year in Rome, where he absorbed the history-rich urban environment and made drawings, paintings and photographs. Back in his lower Manhattan studio, Humphrey reveals some of what the year in Rome did to his work.
